Aragorn 2nd Edition
Aragorn II, the Heir of Isildur, also known by the name of Strider the Ranger, first meets Frodo and his Hobbit companions at The Prancing Pony, an inn in the town of Bree. From there, Aragorn becomes their guide to Rivendell and their companion and protector in the Fellowship of the Ring.
Raised in the House of Elrond Half Elven, Aragorn with his mother Gilraen lived in relative safety, shielded for a time from the enemy who was searching to destroy the Heir of Isildur. Entrusted at the House of Elrond for safekeeping also were the ring of Barahir, the shards of Narsil, the star of Elendil and the sceptre of Annúminas, all heirlooms of Aragorns house. It was at Rivendell that Aragorn met and fell in love with Elrond's daughter, Arwen Undómeil.
Named Estel, 'Hope', by Elrond, Aragorn is also the sixteenth Chieftain of the Dunedain, a once proud people who passed into the shadows after the fall of their former realms Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur. The Dunedain became a secret and wandering people who laboured for the good of the free people of Middle-earth.
With the ancient crown of Eärnur, Aragorn son of Arathorn finally claimed the Kingship of Gondor and Arnor. On his breast he wore the Elessar, a magnificent green jewel in the form of an eagle brooch and he was so named.
Aragorn, along with Gimli the Dwarf, Legolas the Elf, Gandalf the
Wizard, Boromir of Gondor and the four Hobbits Frodo Baggins, Meriadoc
Brandybuck, Peregrin Took and Samwise Gamgee form the Fellowship
of the Ring.
